Recession? - evidently not

Well so many marine companies seem to be going to the wall the moment - Crusader Sails in Poole are obviously doing SO well that they evidently do not NEED any more business.

I emailed them on Tuesday with my boat details requesting a rough cost estimate to replace

- genoa
- main sail
- sail cover
- spray hood
- dodgers

It's now Saturday and still no reply. If a company is going to go to the bother of having a web site and a sales enquiries email address while ignore it.

Can anyone recommend any other sail makers that might be interested in my order ?

cheers

I got the same from them, nothing! for a complete set of sails and covers, I used Southern Sails at poole, Arthur Brays yard, I thinkthey are just two guys, very good efficient and the sails and covers have given 6 years good service already, without any problems, they were also the cheapest of 12! quotes I got. This is the first time I have been able to reccomend them for their excellent service. If you call them, tell them Colin from Englander says hi! and thankyou!

I have just had a roller furling genoa beautifully made by Chris Scales of Sails and Canvas. It was ordered on a Tuesday in October and delivered the following Tuesday. Chris used to work for Hood and when you place an order, you are speaking to the guy who will make the sail, and he is full of good advice. He also uses one of the tightest woven sailcloths that is available. Look at web page www.sailsandcanvas.co.uk or tel 01392 877527.

Forget em. If you check out the North Sails website you will see a graph which shows seasonal pricing, now is apparently a good time to buy. I know that Goacher sails at Windermere have a similar approach, can't recall the address but you should find them on the search engine.

Re: Recession? - thanks - great help

Thanks for the replies - that's very enlightening.

This is my first boat and thus the first time I've replaced sails.

My initial thoughts are that anything will do - but am beginning to form the opinion that actually there's a lot of thought involved and it's not something I should rush into.

Is it worth speaking to a number of sail makers at the London Boat Show ?

I like the sound of these Southern Sails guys though - I'll give 'em a bell on Monday.

ARUN/ROCKALL Sails.

Can confirm I have had excellent service for valeting/alterations/repairs/sunstrip etc. Chose them primarily because they're close to me.

Both firms are in same building and appear to operate as a joint entity.
