Hi,
I am looking to move the boat to the East Coast.
Can anyone reccomend a marina on the Crouch or the Blackwater? Also, which of the two rivers would you reccomend?

Thanks

Charlie

Depends what you want from your boat?

Crouch, lots of food and drink opportunities and excellent racing, Blackwater, more tranquility and peace, but slightly less in the way of facilities.....

Crouch is a long slog out to sea, Blackwater is less so.

Both have marinas worth being in.... Burnham Yacht Harbour in the Crouch is excellent, and Bradwell is good in the Blackwater..... swinging moorings a plenty in both, but don't know what the availability is like

Blackwater. Crouch is basically a ditch, albeit with some good pubs/restaurants, and is a long way from the sea. Personal view.

Only three marinas as such on the Blackwater. Bradwell, about which MoodySabre will pitch in, HW+/-5 - personally had bad experience there and pontoon spaces are quite tight. Tollesbury HW+/-1ish and Maylandsea HW+/-2 but dries.

Have you looked further up Shotley/Levington/Titchmarsh

Second Gordon's points.... I prefer the Blackwater to the Crouch personally, but out of choice would go for the Orwell/Backwaters area... (exactly what I have done).... with the three marinas mentioned above as probably the three best options.... very easy access to the sea, good for north sea passages, and plenty of sheltered water for those less than ideal sailing days...

As M_M predicted - here's a vote for Bradwell. It is a lovely river - wide and meandering so you can sail the miles up to Maldon or 8 miles down to Brightlingsea without getting out in the rough stuff. 5 hours gets you to Burnham, Walton, Shotley and the Orwell and another hour to the Deben. It is quiet - no shops or chandlers but a darn good pub/food but you can sail East or West as the mood/wind takes you. I have a 1.7 fin keel and access is 3 hours either side. Shallow drafts can be +/-5.

I have no idea about waiting lists if any. They can fit you in if they want to. Turn up as a visitor and tell you like it so much you want to stay - that's what I did.

You are welcome to a water-borne tour in a couple of weeks when the boat is in (God and weather willing).
