rebuilding whale gusher galley mk3

Anyone rebuilt one of these?
I failed miserably last night, can't seem to keep the gasket on the side with the spring set into the body, while fitting the cover on the footpump side the spring pushes the gasket and it comes out of the little groove.

Any hints?

pump rebuild

I have re-built one of these in the past, it is easier with two people.

1 Screw the pump down onto a spare piece of wood while you mend it
2 Attach the foot pedal side of the pump to the main body with carefully chosen self tapping screws that just grip in the plastic.
3 Stand on the piece of wood and push down on the foot pedal
4 Attach the other side of the pump to the main body with carefully chosen self tapping screws that just grip in the plastic.
5 remove a pair of self tapping screws from oposite ends of the same hole, insert that holes bolt and fit the nut
6 Repeat 5 until all bolts have been refitted
7 Refit to boat

PS we failed at first and just bought another pump, then fixed the first one later as a spare.
