This is my first post, so I'll begin by saying Hello

We are a live aboard family and planning on flying back to uk for 2 weeks mid september. Please can anyone recommend a good safe marina somewhere around the french spanish border and Barcelona which is not too expensive!

Many thanks
Jayne

Try Badalona, in the northern suburbs of Barcelona. Cost us about euro 26 a day in August for 12 metre boat. It's near to the metro (10 minute walk) or train (15 minutes) both of which connect to the train to the airport. Good supermarket just over the railway bridge outside the marina. Downside is its not pretty and the neighbourhood is a bit run down. Security is good: the marineos stopped SWMBO climbing round the gate one night when she locked herself out.....

Another vote for Badalona, very safe, reasonably priced, excellent transport links, well provisioned and lovely beaches nearby, although I dont think the OP will need lovely beaches if its just a pit stop

Depends where you´re flying back to the UK from, whether you will stay in the port area at all, and the size of your boat.

Barcelona is our base port, although we´re currently cruising the French canals with our two small boys.

Port Forum is pretty cheap but has minimum facilities, and you can get to the airport on the AIRBUS from Plaza Cataluña pretty quickly. Port Ginesta has a bus which runs close to the airport at El Prat.

Both are safe enough ports, although PG has more movement

if you´re flying from Girona, then you may want to stay further North - I think Roses has a direct bus service to the airport.

PM me if you want more details and / or someone to keep an eye on your boat if it´s in the local area

Villanova y la Geltru just south of Sitges - VylG is just an ordinary town with good transport links to the airport and Barca (rail station walking distance from marina). Safe. Worth checking current prices.
Also try Casteldelfels (nearer Barca) for same reason.

Empuriabrava is great but very expensive in the main marina. However, there are lots of private berths available at half the price from people who have a mooring with their house but don't use it. Santa Margarita is cheap but not much to do.

Thank you very much for all your very helpful replies, Badelona seems the perfect place, much appreciated everyone :)
