Anyone know where I can find a reasonably priced LPG gas alarm suitable for marine use ? My googling has turned up a few but theyre are all quite pricey... If it did CO as well that would be a bonus but I can get one in BeanQueue if not.

Thanks,

I have one from Lidl - cost less than £10. Seems to make all the right noises when tested so assume it will work for real. Like most things from Lidl not always available, but sure there must be other sources.

I guess it depends on what you call pricey.

£190 when the original request for a reasonably priced one.

The Halfords one, if suitable, I would count as reasonably priced. Pity they dont say what make it is.
( Same one is available from Towsure but slightly more expensive)

Tranona, as usual, has found the real bargain one. If it works ;)

Where would you site a combined LPG/ CO monitor

LPG detectors are normally sited low down on the basis that LPG is more dense than air and, initially at any rate, tends to sink to the floor. CO detectors are normally sited within the breathing zone.

I can feel a YAPP coming on :) I think that the sensors are available from Sparkfun.

The same sensors even cheaper than Sparkfun can be found on Ebay from the peoples republic. A sensor head on my veteran KM detector packed up last season, they kindly invited me to send it back so they could have a look at it, but I haven't been able to get a reply since and haven't now got the circuit board to replace the sensor on. So, having done a data logger project using an arduino, I have now replaced the guts of the detector with an arduino pro mini, a buzzer, and two new sensor heads out of vero board to fit the old boxes. Using switching power supplies has reduced the power draw a bit [the sensors have a heater which is the main demand]. Hopefully I have set the trigger levels somewhere near ok, but I can anticipate tweaking the settings a bit once it is installed. I'm also thinking that I could have added a CO sensor in the main box too.

I settled for a hand held one in the end. I did have a pilot dual sensor installed but it had stopped working and I wasn't happy that the test system was a genuine test. In the end I got the hand held one, I test it at the hob on a regular basis and check the bilges frequently when the gas has been on. We are careful about turning the gas on and off at the Cylinder but if it has been inadvertently left on for any time we will do a test.

Marine version here http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Amos_LPG_Marine_Gas_Alarm_12_V_DC.html for 70 beer tokens. I have'nt checked it out but there was the same one on my boat when I bought her and it worked ok.
I dont think that a combined LPG / CO alarm would be any good without seperate sensors as they need to be placed at different levels this would obviously add to the costs.

ps I need to declare an interest as I work for Calor Gas and Calor are now 50% owners in Hamilton gas products (link above).
