We have an old reads and feel it would benefit from a walking foot. Does anyone have any experience of sourcing , fitting and using one.

Machine feet that call themselves "walking ?",are available for the Reads Sailmaker. It won't actually grip and grab the fabric like a true walking foot. The purpose of walking feet is to grip and carry the fabric forward to provide a smooth feeding of the fabric , making regular even stitching.
The light weight construction of the mechanical type ,will usually provide additional foot pressure ,but you will need to assist in feeding the fabric through.

before you throw it in the skip, what's the problem please ?

Mine works fine on at least four layers of sailcloth, but like all machines it does not like fighting against a huge mass of cloth. Feed the material in so that there is no strain or tension in the needle area.

If you want to sell it, try our For Sale forum, or PM Cuchilo, I think he wanted one.
