Re: through hull transducer
Many thanks again to all those who contributed their advice. Job was executed at low water Saturday against the wall at Dinas, Menai Straits, on a 5 metre tide range. The NASA transducer was the same diameter as the old Seafarer, but turned out shorter - now I know my boat is nearly 6inches thick ahead of the keel! So it's glued in with Purflex with a two inch long plug of same stuff moulded to the cable above the transducer. Given that it was a tight fit anyway (I had to firmly tap it in from below with a softwood plug against the working end which I also protected with several layers of masking tape) I can't see it's ever going to go anywhere though I'll probably try to source a longer one with a view to swopping them over the winter. I finished the job about 1800 and she refloated about 2300, by which time the Purflex was nicely skinned over. Inspection in the morning when I dried again confirmed everything was as it should be so returned to my mooring on the lunchtime tide. Now that I have a working echo sounder perhaps I can get some sailing done!
