Not sure of the question, sorry...

But the norm is for the thin end to be into the luff, assuming your talking horizontal battens.

Thicker end aft, it's the leech you are stiffening and that's where the max. section is needed. Mind, it's that long since I've had the boat out I've nearly forgotten...........!
