I am considering purchasing a German- flagged vessel.

I will have to re - register as British.

Has anyone been through this process before?

Is it easy to deregister in Germany?? How do you go about it??

...I wanna boat please..

I did this with a Princess I bought in Germany a few years ago. De-registering was'nt a problem. In fact, there was'nt anything to do. Registering with British Registry, though, was a major pain-in the-ass as they insisted in having originals of all paperwork documenting changes in title, NOT photocopies. In fact, I only managed to get photocopies of some documents which the Registry insisted on having notarised for authenticity. This meant employing a solicitor to travel to Germany in order to witness the signature of ex owners on various bits of paper. Needless to say, this took months to sort out and cost me £2k.
I would check with the Registry exactly what documents they require and insist with your vendor's broker that you get sight of these documents before you hand your dosh over. In my case, the broker promised that the documentation would be handed over on completion but this did'nt happen and, of course, after he'd got my money, the broker was'nt interested anymore

Those people think Chemical tiolets are a improvemnt upon vacuum and electric and remeber fondly outside karsies in Febraury and drive like t**** on this country's motorways and are married to women who know where gReenham Common realy is

Come to the MED, noone ther would understand the etrms knots, wind over tide, and NOBODY would dare lie about ever going out in wnything more than a force 4...and what is shallow water?

Depends if you or, more importantly, somebody who buys the boat from you in the future wants to mortgage the boat in which case it needs to be Brit registered. SSR is a waste of time for proving title to ownership as well
