Hi,
Just lifted out and noticed that the leg needs some serious cleaning and painting all over!

What should i be using? I see that i can get Volvo primer and paint form the dealers, but thats no doubt an expensive route, is there a better one? Can anyone recommend a better primer/top coat to use, and should it be anti-fould afterwards?

Thanks in advance.

Matthew

HI

I use the outdrive spray cans for both primer £16 one tin per leg followed by antifoul spray can £14, again one tin will do one leg, so it works out about £30 per leg, not bad when you think of the price of the 290 leg. I have used it for the last 2 years and found it very good.

If you intend anti fouling your hull, remember to leave a 20mm (or so)gap around your outdrive leg shield casting and your new coat of hull anti foul.

Trilux all over the place

I recommend it strongly

It goes on easily

And weeds up just like the other shi2 out there /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The suggestions so far are good but but never seem to work as well as the hull anti foul (which you can't use of course) Have a search on this forum over the last 12 months for lanolin. Many of us have had excellent results with raw lanolin and another more solid type (name escapes me!) which you warm up and apply.

Hi. I have used Trilux with great success. Two seasons ago I cleaned legs right back to Volvo paint, touched up any shiny aluminium with etch primer, Primoconed everywhere, then with Trilux (2 coats plus extra on some parts). As usual, did the props as well, but this time scraped right back to shiny aluminium and did the same.
Result, when lifted last Oct, was excellent. No flaking paint anywhere. Just needed a wash and brush up.

Also used Trilux last year.Legs a bit stained but no growth anywhere, perhaps the last rubbish summer discouraged the weed and barnykules from growing.
