Many thanks to those who offered advice. We decided that it would not give us the services we wanted. In particular SWMBO wanted Ch5.

I also now know that I could get BBC1 & 2 and ITV but not CH4 or 5 on freeview so we will have to wait until 2012 for that.

A few years ago I might have got the satellite thing as a toy after all it is a much cheaper toy than the grp lined hole in the sea but decided against it after all.

Perhaps if we get desparate we take another look at Sky

Not if you live where I do.
Officially we cant get Freeview yet but one of the links in answer to my original post told me that I should get 1,2 & ITV. We cant get ch5 properly anyway
Johnathon Kent is correct

It is as Jon says - blocks of digital channels are transmitted on the analogue channels you can normally receive. All the beeb channels are on the Beeb 1 & 2, and ITV channels come in on the ITV1 channel, etc.

In some parts of Falmouth harbour, we can get a signal from the Redruth transmitter. In other parts, we can only get the Caradon Hill aerial, and cannot always get all digital channels.

I am stuck right in between the two masts (Redruth and Caradon). I can get very good quality analogue reception from Caradon, but the website says I won't be able to receive the digital channels so I haven't bothered to buy anything yet. Its funny though, 6 miles up the road and they can get all digital channels no problem.

Over this side of Cornwall we are also told that we cant get freeview. This is nonsence its the only way to get any reception. The analogue signal here is appaling, Freeview is perfect on all channels. Mobile phones dont work in the village though!!
