Re: How much space does chain occupy?

I would take the practical viewpoint and run a simple test.
1 ...estimat roughly the maximum drop you're going to get and lower the chain directly from that heoght allowing no great weight of chain to develop above the chosen height. do it slowly so the maximum height of pile is developed and measure the resultant height.
2....Add 50% to allow for the lack of sloping sides and the coil of anchorplait it will doubtless sit upon in the locker for when things get a bit hairy then
3.... add another foot (300mm) so it doesn't touch the electric windlass you'll need to fit to haul that lot up and hey presto an answer.

I did just that and found that my locker is too small so I have to stop every 20 metres and push over the pile of chain. Sigh But the master forecabin will sleep three adults /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
