As it appears to be the time of year to ask all about new equipment I have a list;
Best chart plotter under £500.00?
Best VHF/DSC under £200.00?
Small boat, sub 10m, wind generator?
NASA AIS, opinions?

So I have made on offer, which was accepted, organised a survey and hope to complete soon. Now I need to upgrade some of the gear on board. All I want is some ideas about the best small boat options, 85 views, no comments! Can someone PM me with with correct protocol for asking this type of question?

bumble, possibly too many questions in one thread, and a bit short on usage info like cruising area, etc.

Isnt it annoying when you think you have laid a killer thread, and no one bites?

Chartplotter depends on fixed or portable, which cartography, latest whizzo features or not, saloon or cockpit mounted. Most are colour now I think,
For instance there is a lot of recommendation aroud the Garmin 276C on here this week. Look up Small Boat Champs recent threads, and he has bought a v. cheap Lowrance something or other, but its nothing like the Garmin 276 mentioned. I believe he is delighted.

Best VHF? Lots to choose from. I have Silva S15 with Navtex, now 229 quid. Its not everyones cup of tea, but it does what I want, maybe look at some of the Standard Horizon kit, thats cheap. I have one of their handhelds, and thats OK too.

Also recent thread on Wind Generator. What do you want it for. If its to sustain life at sea, then a Duogen seems a favorite round these parts, but if you want it to top up the batts during the week, then a small Rutland will do. Me? I want a 913 and a 30w solar panel.

AIS, there is a thread in Scuttle right now between having a SeaMe and AIS. Personally, I would spend the money and have a RADAR like the JRC1000 for under 700 quid. In fact NAS bought a whole used Radar for something under 200 quid.
I have a JRC1800 combined chartplotter/radar for 1250 quid, and I am happy.

See, it takes a lot of answering, and I have told you virtually nothing.
