Re: First yacht: am I making the right choice

Thanks everyone for all the advice/suggestions and apologies for the delay in replying.
You've given me a lot to think about! The only thing I'm certain of is that the boat will be GRP instead of wood. Well it's a start. Several of you suggested I join one or two sailing clubs and try to get a sail on different boats. Thanks, I would never have considered that - I thought I needed a boat first which just shows how dumb Iam. My next step will be to persuade swmbo that weekend trips to boatyards are far more interesting than trips to IKEA.
Cheers

Not sure where you are based, try going to Boat Sales - there are two on the East Coast this month - 19 & 20 Oct at Tollesbury where you can wander all over the boats for sale, often with the owners in attendance, very informal - or at the Boat Sale at Suffolk Yacht Harbour nr Ipswich, 24 - 27 Oct where there are probably more boats but you have to 'register' and book each boat you want to look at, but again sometimes the owners on board and a very good place to look at a variety of boats from starter boats to large yachts. Both places have good meals on site at the yacht club.

Thanks, sounds ideal.
I live (is that what you call it?) in Warwickshire but we're due to visit our daughter in Cambrideshire one (now both!) of those weekends. I think I have an idea for a day out with a difference...

You won't regret it - one tip, get there early, not sure when they start but try phoning them - the adverts are in the back of PBO, Clarke & Carter for Suffolk Yacht Harbour and Woodrolfe Brokerage for Tollesbury. You will probably spend all day there, I do and I've got a boat! Very bad for your wallet...
