Re-engined Sunseeker Monterey

I would be really interested to know what you guys feel a 1983 Sunseeker Monterey with 2 new Mercruiser 4.3s linked to Alpha 1 drives might be worth. The boat now has 440HP and reached 50 knots in testing. The boat is a real classic and now in great order. The survey after the the new engines and drives were fitted was excellent. Someone said to me it's like an XJ150 of the sea. I would also like advice as to the best place to sell her. Thanks for any help.

Re-Engined Monterey

That's a tricky one. The main issue is that you will never get even close to the cost of the re-engining cost. A typical Monterey with a pair of old Volvo petrols is I guess worth about £18-20K, but its all on condition. If you hang out for loads more then you will need to find a buyer who appreciates the work that has gone into the restoration.
I had a Monterey about six years ago and they are really great boats and big enough to weekend on with useable space. Apart from the heads of course. If you have long legs you have to leave the door open !

Thanks for that. I know you are right. But how to find that elusive person who would like such a boat with all the work done is a real challange. I know I should use it a lot more but for one reason or another I don't. One guy said I need to find someone who has fond memeories of his Dad owing one when he was a child. And the point about the heads is right as well, although it's better than not having any at all !! Thanks again.
