I have a Bayliner 2455 (24 foot) boat with a 4.3l (EFI) Mercruiser Engine.
The boat works fine when the bottom is clean at the beginning of the season but once it starts to silt up it soon becomes under powered.
I can always clean it part way through the season (and do) but I could really do with more power.
Has anyone else had the same problem? I understand that there is no way to squeeze more HP out of the engine and the prop is well matched, although it is alluminium.
I have considered a stainless prop or maybe a "high five" prop or even a re engine. I could perhaps go to a diesel? but the costs will mount if the leg also has to be changed.
Does anyone have any good ideas or could anyone advise how much a re engine would cost?
Thanks,
Gorde.
