I have a large number (about 50) of items for re-chroming. Small sizes, Lewmar 65 drums down to individual half inch wear plates. The last owner was seriously ripped off, chrome on chrome flaking away. Can anybody recommend a good chrome plater who will do a proper job? It's decent bronze that needs good prep and chrome.

I saw Car SOS on Channel 4 earlier today and they were restoring an old Dennis Fire engine.
They took some headlight bezels to a company in Basildon for re-chroming.
The parts were chromed inside a vacuum chamber and involved argon gas
No idea how it would stand up in marine environment but Interesting new technology and worth a watch if you have catch up tv.

I wonder if J & A Finishing Services Ltd are still just off the M27 at Unit K, Fort Wallington Industrial Estate, Fareham.

I gave them a couple of winch drums in 2013 that looked like this, with chrome bits the size of finger nails flaking off..

They handed them back looking like this...

Eleven years later, numerous channel crossings and a few Fastnet races later and they're still looking the same.

J & A had a process that de-chromed them first and then the plating process was in a couple of stages.

Their website doesn't appear to work but their Facebook page gives a phone number..

A friend had his drums replated and they came back with the rough texture ground off, which was unfortunate but not critical. The smart ones above are obviously OK, but it may be as well to make sure before handing them over.

I too used Ashford Chroming - very good communications and service. I believe they Cu, and Ni plate before Cr. I have a green tinge appearing, particularly on the hard to polish area, after 4 months exposure and occasional saltwater immersion. However, the least of my problems!

That’s correct, I’ve just had a quote from them. Not cheap but that’s ok if the quality is good. I’m planning to send a test batch first.
