re caulking a teak deck

Hi all,

The caulking on the teak decks on my boat is starting to break up (boat is 8 years old), has anyone had the caulking replaced and is it a big job? What sort of cost am I looking at per square foot/metre?

I doubt I'm patient enough or neat enough to do it myself.

Very expensive on labour. Actual cost will depend on the method of construction and what remedial work is required. Difficult to quote a cost without seeing the job. Best to get 3 or 4 quotes and discuss with each what they are going to do for the money.

Caulking replacement is not a big deal, just time consuming. Can be easier with automation - get a Fein multimaster and buy the caulking removal attachment. I did quite a lot of ours some years go, and then coated the entire boat in Colean, including the deck - use the grit they supply to add to the deck surface if you go this route.

Post some photos, and maybe people can advise you better on repair or replacement.

I recently removed a deck panel to fix the passerelle and I bought the fein tool with the caulk remover. It is a brilliant tool for this job and very well worth buying

Was considering buying an orbital sander to sand my teak platform next year (it really needs it) but after watching a video of the Fein in action, looks like the business for that purpose, and many more... another toy to the list

Does it come with many accessories or do you buy them separately?
