Re: Bavaria experience
I did meet a couples whos Bav had split around the bottom rudder bearing, after a trans atlantic.
The old ones are far better made, I had a 1991 390, did 10,000 miles in 11 months and would have taken her anywhere, a really lovely boat.
Parked next to a new bav 42 when we sold her, our fittings were bigger with more fixings, bigger winches etc. You could see where money has been saved.
For a long term cruise you dont want a boat that may be worn out after three years and 25,000 miles, I suspect many cheaper boats are only designed to last for two to three years on charter before they show signs of fatigue. But I could be wrong, just go and loom at some older ones as well.
