Got an e mail this am from the immigration dept on Saint Helena confirming my boat made a visit for 2 days in 97 on passage from S. Africa to Brazil. I think that lets me off RCD compliance but do any of you wise ones know what I have to do now to get a bit of paper confirming it?

That´s not correct. The boat must just have been present in the EEA (European Economic Area) prior to June 18 (or is it 8 ?) 1998 to pass. The "put on the market" element is the one which underpins the whole RCD philosophy as it aims to create a "level playing field" for the pleasure boat industry in the EU and does not, in theory, apply to boats acquired through a non-market transmission (e.g. inheritance)
