RB12 Race has now been officially "Postponed" until 2014 but it will take more than that to put off the E-Lites BananaShark crew.

With very little time to organise it the intention is for the crew to carry on with the trip and go round Britain anyway, using the more traditional Race route through the Caledonian Canal the crew plan to start in their home port of Salcombe, the team will visit 10 more venues leaving cheques for Children's Hospices at every venue with the Rotary Club of Great Britain (I'm sure they won't mind!) - This money will come from the return of the entry fee from the RB12 Organisers. Our proposed route is on this map and if we get approval from everybody we will be back by the end of June.

Thanks to Bob Eddings who has already offered some help with Poole - if you're on the route and have some local knowledge that would be of some use then please let me know - thanks!

Wish us luck and if anyone is on our route we would love to see you on the way round.

Sorry to hear that Cookee, i know you built for the race! still CMC should give you something to aim at.

Assume you will be at CTC this year? maybe you should plan a few lunch trips to the solent for long distance practice runs!?

I think I would choose one of the Channel Islands if I was going that far .......... no offence intended!

Great stuff - E-Lites have formally approved the use of the returned entry fees of £3,500 to be distributed to Children's Hospices around the country and they are sponsoring the boat fuel costs for the trip. We aim to raise some extra cash on the way round for the charities as well.

The name of the event is now the 'E-Lites Round Britain Charity Challenge' and we are getting close to finalising the route - thank you very much for all of the help and advice offered by everyone on here, couldn't do it without you!

Good work Cookee!

Dont suppose any of the other teams that had applied are interested in joining you on the way round?

if it were me, i would jump at the chance of some long distance practice ahead of next year!

Great work from you and your sponsors to make the best of a bad situation! Good Luck!

Thanks very much - It starts to get complicated if we start adding people as there is no commitment unless you take money off people and then responsibility comes with that and then there's insurance ............ so it's just us unless things change!

Good initiative.....

Can help with advise and guidance on stretches in N Scotland.... Isla Northwards ... then the Canal.... and anything along the Morray Coastline... including Rattray Head, then Southwards, including The Wash ... further South there will be others more able to help....

On the Inverness side, I'd skip Caley Marina as is not right for you ,,, choose to go down the Muirown Locks to Seaport Marina (just before the service and sea lock), or do Inverness Marina as you have down as an alternative....

Thank you - At this stage a contact at the Canal would be helpful to see if I can smooth my passage a little! If there is a particular route through the islands that is best then that would be good to know as well. Great advice for Inverness as well notes duly altered!
