Raytheon ST 60 Wind

My ST60 Wind indicator has gone nuts. The analogue pointer just rotates steadily at about 2 r.p.m. Sometimes it reverses direction.
I've replaced the masthead unit and checked and reterminated the wiring.
Any ideas appreciated.

Give Raymarine a call 01329 246 777. They are very helpful and will probably be able to repair it, usually a 5 working day turn around. They have a fixed fee for repair. Suggest you sit down before they tell you!

I hope payment is contingent on a fix. Three Raymarine technicians came out to our charter boat in Turkey last week (so not at our expense, and not Malo37's symptom), brought a new masthead unit and went up the mast with it. But said it was incompatible and they could not fix!.

Ours did that, double check your wiring (any joins) and turn it on and off (all units at breaker or switch, not just on button). The coax cover has to be connected as well as the wires....

I think it's gone on strike in sympathy with the Swedish yachtbuilding industry in its currently depressed state. Penguin has been in tears every time she's visited Henån since Najad went bust. And at the end of April in her first outing of the season she managed to crush not one but two of her nav lights - or perhaps that was my dodgy helmsmanship. See

Seriously though, it does sound as if the display is bosted (as we say in South Derbyshire), and that it's a job for Raymarine.

PS . . . but I'm sure it's worth trying onesea's suggestion above.

I have had a similar problem. The transducer was checked ok as was the display. Replacing the cable fixed it, if you have bought a new transducer then it should have come with new cable. In my case the original cable seemed to be ok but 'twas not so.

If you google the problem you will find the voltages to expect on each of the wires. A £5 digital multimeter will do it. That will quickly show you if it is the head and cable or the unit itself. If those voltages are not correct and you have a new head unit then the cable needs changing.

Thanks all for suggestions. I did replace the masthead unit but, being lazy, not the cable (thinking nothing much goes wrong with wires). Already tried power off/on as I always turn everything off when not on the boat.
I'll check the voltages and if that doesn't work - sell the boat.

I don't think that can count as Deep Thought! Cables have to be perfectly connected and protected (from all the marine environment) before they can be considered as "fit and forget"; how often does that happen?
