Raymarine

What I feel more important is the fact that a manufacturer of a very expensive item e s127.
Chart plotter do not carry parts to repair 35 months after it was made.

Very annoying. But that's the sort of thing the EU might legislate against in future. I believe they have already made a start with domestic appliances.

So, keep your fingers crossed that we stay in the EU because as sure as s---t, Raymarine won't do anything for the consumer unless they're compelled by legislation or market forces to do it. ;)

I think I accepted that the seller of the item is not responsible .It was others suggesting taking legal action. I haven't even contacted him directly.

The internet pages are full of this Raymarine screen freeze problem .

I'll try and deal with this issue.

It is clearly the case that an expensive item like this is expected to last more than 3 years, irrespective of any legal or manufacturer's warranty, as otherwise it would not be fit for purpose. If you had been the original purchaser of the equipment then you would certainly have a valid claim against Raymarine and, had you taken them to court, you almost certainly would have been awarded a compensatory sum. However, this would not have been the purchase price but would have been significantly reduced.

In Raymarine's defence, it might well be that the discount you are being offered is similar to the sum that would have been awarded by the court. However, you are not the original purchaser and have not actually had to go through the hassle of going to court so, in your case, you may well be onto a winner depending upon how good the new equipment is and whether it will have a better parts backup than the defunct equipment.

Why the equipment you bought is so poorly supported is another question. In my experience, I have no complaints about Raymarine support for my ancient Seatalk1 system but maybe their standards have slipped in more recent years?

Thank all who contributed to the thread , at least it will come up on most search engines regarding Raymarine problems .
I have a friend on his way from Greece to Durban SA. with exactly the same item and problem he's stuck in Spain .

This was always my thought when people complained about Raymarine's lack of legacy support: The plotter I bought 7-8 years ago supported direct connectivity with 20+ year old kit. Very commendable. Unfortunately said plotter became obsolete a few months after I bought it and there were no firmware updates after mid 2012. I was interested in the original quantum radar when it came out 3 or 4 years ago but nope: my 4-year-old mfd didn't support it and I'd have to buy a new plotter if I wanted solid state radar.

I recognise companies have to discontinue support for products at some point but I don't think stocking parts and providing critical software updates for 5 years is too much to ask given the price of this stuff..
