Ours is getting sticky - moving the ram manually it's easy to push the rod IN; but difficult to pull it OUT. The system keeps tripping the control panel fuse and I think it's worse when it is trying to move the ram OUT.

There seems to be a problem with the small gears under the clutch. When pulling the ram OUT they bear down on the collar of the rod assembly and introduce friction. Pushing the ram IN moves this gear assembly away from the collar- no friction.

Anyone with experience of servicing these critters? The motor, belt, rod, everything else seems fine.

I replaced the gears with Raymarines heavy gear set - all metal, rather than one plastic. The plastic one wears, as Raymarine have obviously discovered.

Make sure you put the gears back in the same way up as they came out - there is a lip on one side of the small gears.

IIRC it's a bit tricky but not impossible to get inside. A pair of circling pliers will help - you'll get to a point where the size needed becomes obvious.
