Raymarine Tiller Pilot (ST1000) on the blink

My ST1000 behaved erratically on Friday and then gave up.

Switched on and off standby and sundry other random actions with no input from me, and then the screen went blank and it now does nothing, but emits a high pitched whine when powered up.
Blank display.

Anyone seen similar symptoms, and know if it is mendable.

When mine does this it's because a wire has come loose in the little two pin socket (invariably due to me standing on the socket).

Unfortunately they are very waterproof, and if seawater gets in and onto the circuit board, that's the end of it.
