My ST2000+ is nearly 2 years old and seemingly has self-destructed (it iw well within boat weight spec). The ram unscrews and threadlock didnt help and yesterday after some very alarming mechanical sounds, it has given up the ghost, whines a lot, but nothing happens. Has anyone had Raymarine repair things in the past (I dont have the receipt and doubt it is under guarantee anymore). I have to say it is more than a little upsetting to have a relatively new and expensive bit of kit die like this. If not, then can anyone recommend a company on the East Coast that may be able to repair it ?. Many Thanks.

It sounds like mechanical failure of some kind. If a guarantee repair is not possible you might want to open it up and explore. I found a plastic bracket sheared on mine and fixed it by through bolting it to an aluminium plate. Now working fine. The tricky part is keeping the case seal in position while you screw the case halves together...

Raymarine are usually helpful and typically if you send the item back to them they will assess for repair and if beyond recovery will offer a 25%(ish) discount off the RRP of a new one.

After only two years that may be seen as an expensive option but it may still be the best for you

I thought the guarantee was two years? Mine was fixed for free just out of guarantee. Worth ringing them. If they find a fault rather than wear and tear they are pretty well bound to repair it.

Are you sure you didn't stick the serial number sticker into the manual? This is effectively the guarantee.

I just had an exactly opposite experience! My Raystar 120 GPS receiver stopped working, just outside the 2 year warranty. Raymarine's response was that it was a sealed unit and couldn't be repaired, but offered 25% discount off RRP on a Raystar 125 - which ended up roughly as much as I could have bought one for from a retailer! Hope the 125 lasts longer than 2 years.

my past experience of the raymarine repair team at portsmouth has been overwhelmingly positive - good service, friendly and nice people and pricing seems ok - minor (I hope) hiccup - my st4000 wheel drive was repaired at start of season and when i refitted it repair was ineffective so it is back with them for more tlc as we speak - hopefully be back soon!

I reckon your unit has not lasted a reasonable time. I know operation/conditions etc will vary, but in 'defence' of Raymarine, our ST2000 has taken us down to the Med a few times as well as to the Caribbean and back over the last 13 years and is still operating perfectly.

We didn't expect this and bought three (yes THREE!) spare units before we set off full time cruising. Two are still in their boxes unused, and we sold one to a friend whose own unit had died.

Doesn't help you I know, but they do 'open up' really easily and, unless it's a pcb breakdown, the problem is usually immediately visible.

Personally, I'd have a look myself before wacking it off to Raymarine, but if you do, you should get an exremely good service. We certainly did when our previous 2000 was ill many years ago. I took it into Portsmouth, had coffee and bscuits while they had a look, and they appeared again with it, all sorted and free of charge!

Good company, and I think they would expect this product to have a far longer life than just two years, so you may get similar treatment. Good luck anyway.
