Looks like Raymarine is about to be bought. Share price up 26% having already risen earlier this week. Garmin presumably.

It could be a lot worse, imagine Simrad taking them over!!! Hells teeth! Simrad would surely do what they have done with all the other companies that have dissapeared in their ownership. Or they might reduce the quality of Raymarine to Simrads shoddy level.

Not looking so likely now...

"Fri 23/05/2008 11:19

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Raymarine Plc. said discussions about a potential offer for the company have been terminated.

The marine electronic products maker had said on April 2 it had received a preliminary approach."

not a fan of simrad then?

I must admit I looked closely at them and decided my money would be better spent elsewhere. they didn' make the long list let alone the short one.

still it looks like Ray marine are safe pro tem.

Though I wonder if the damage has been done and set the corporate vultures circling, what chance of raymarine surviving as we know it. Now Garmin has brought out a speed/ wind/ log unit that could rival Rays ST70 and uses std transducers???????

Am I right in thinking that Raymarine was created when they separated from Raytheon by means of a Management Buy-out? If so, the investors may be seeking an exit strategy hence the "discussions". But I agree; the outcome may leave the vultures circling anyway...........

True. I am a bit out of touch with Raymarine now but I did know one of the directors involved in the original MBO. He sold his shares and left the company (a wealthy man) just before Raymarine shifted production to Eastern Europe. I think, but nothing more than anecdotal, that several of the directors did the same thing, selling to either private equity of venture capitalists, not sure which.
