I posted a question Here regarding my anemometer which had stuck. Yesterday we removed the assembly from the mast and I took it home. Initially it seemed as if there wasn't any play in the bearings for the cups, but I soaked the 'wind' end in a solution of warm water and washing up liquid overnight to see what would happen.

I unscrewed the anemometer and removed it. There was quite a bit of gunk inside, and carefully cleaning this allowed the cups to move freely. There is a very small drainage hole which was mostly blocked. This was cleared with a pin.

Question is: The cups now revolve quite freely, but the bearing is 'tired' with a bit of play, as it is now 17 years old, should I look to have it refurbished, if so - where? Or do I shell out for a new assembly from Raymarine (I'm a pensioner, for Gawds sake).

The post I referred to earlier was one where RichardS had managed to get the assembly apart and put new bearings in, but it looks as if the pictures are no longer available.

You can do it by yourself, but be careful with the plastic parts, they break very easy. The dimensions of the bearings are OD 8MM ID 4mm and width 3mm. In the foto the old ones are on the left side.20230212_224111_copy_1538x2052.jpg

Hi Klausen

have you links to where you can get the bearings or are they just standard?

Are they a press fit - a DIY job?
