Pondering on a potential upgrade path from my boat's current old but functioning well ST5000+ autopilot.
The ST5000+ control head is completely different from the ST6002 (of which I have a spare from my previous boat) I've also got an ST1G ACU spare left over and from what I can see in the manuals am thinking I could replace the ST5000+ control head with a 6002 and install the ST1G controller.
At this stage the financial implications of going to an EV rule out such a plan and my previous boat's ST6002 / S1G setup worked reliably for the 20 years I owned the boat - just one gear replacement on the Linear drive.
In a windy 15 hour downwind trip from Plymouth to Roscoff during March the 5000 didn't cope as well as my S1G used to so the question is, should I bother changing - which wouldn't cost me anything, or should I keep saving for another year or two until I can afford an EV setup...?
Nothing wrong at all with the ST60 setup on wind / depth / speed etc
