Raymarine st4000+ track function

After working for many years the track function has stopped working. XTE and BTW are present on the unit. Tried swapping mag to true and back on plotter and ST4000. Any clues much appreciated.
 
Seems to have started working . There was a deviation of about 15 degrees on the original heading I was trying. It started working again on a different heading with very small deviation. I'm not sure if this was the cause of the problem and I'm not sure how the system could know there was a large deviation. I'll swing the compass tomorrow as a precaution. No new equipment near the flux gate sensor. Any other comments appreciated. (The system bleeped when I pressed track but track wouldn't appear in the display)
 
I dont think it was a bad connection as I was getting XTE and BTW on the data pages of the ST4000 display. If there's a data problem it usually says no data if you try to use track.
 
Do you have a rudder angle indicator? If so, can you check if it is working?
 
No rudder angle. It's tiller steered but I'll check it's disabled just in case although it's worked ok for many years.
 
Problem solved. I've been using the st4000 for 12 years and just realised if you hold the track button for longer than 1 second it bleeps but nothing happens. Always works with a quick tap. Ah well it's the first sail after a long break things could be worse.
