Someone gave me a faulty ST4000+ autopilot control head. I’ve just cobbled it together with a fluxgate compass unit and a tiller drive unit on my garden table. When you press the “AUTO” button it displays “NO DATA” which is what the chap who gave it to me had said. Connections are all good and the drive unit works when tested independently. Any idea what’s wrong or how to fix it - I gather it’s a common problem but Google doesn’t seem to have a definitive answer and Raymarine don’t support this model anymore.

Once you have figured this out -

Did you ever figure this out? I have an ST4000+ installed on my boat and it lost its ability to distinguish arse and elbow with no warning about 3 weeks ago. The 'NO DATA' response is telling. I replaced the fluxgate, checked over all wiring and have done a cursory check of the analog electronics with the aid of a service manual - all to no avail so far.
