Hello,

When connected to a seatalk bus does a Raymarine ST200+ output heading data? If it does...can that be repeated on a Seatalk to NMEA bridge.

Trying to get MARPA running on a Garmin GPSMAP3005c but it needs a heading sensor and standalone ones are more expensive than the plotter. Obviously if it does work i'll only have MARPA when on autopilot but i could live with that.

Exapp.

Check the standard of data, MAPPA requires 10hz data well damped and it is often recomended that you use rate compensation. The st2000 is a standard fuxgate (don't know the data frequency) and may not give sufficiently stable output to maintain MAPPA lock. Might be fine for other heading functions such as course up.

AFAIK, Raymarine tillerpilots, such as the ST2000 only receive, but do not output data. If you want heading output on seatalk, then you require an instrument such as the ST60 Compass.

You could feed ANY nmea compass heading into the st nmea converter and it will work.. dont need rm specific.. a garmin gps will do the job.

[/ QUOTE ]How can a GPS give you a heading? Surely it can only tell you your course over the ground - it has no idea which direction the boat is pointing!
