We've a problem with our Raymarine ST 4000+ Autohelm
On a long trip today, the motor stopped working. The instrument displays as normal but the motor does nothing.
We're presently on the pontoon at Dale during a cruise. We've dismantled what we can with limited tools, and discovered that -
1. The motor spins in both directions when 12 volts is applied directly across the terminals.
2. The 2 pin plug connection from the instrument display head to the motor delivers just 4.5 volts when the Auto is engaged, not 12 volts.
3. As we dismantled the motor unit, we managed to break the two connectors, but this can be fixed with tools (soldering iron etc.) we don't presently have on board.
Can't see this relating to the problem, probably just being hamfisted!
Looks like manual helming for the remainder of our cruise, unless anyone can come up with a quick solution.
Alternatively, what's the longer term approach to solving this issue.
Thanks in advance everyone
Mike
