Raymarine shares!!

Why would Garmin want to take over the debt when they could pick it up for peanuts from the receiver. If Garmin do take it over I hope they sort the reliability out. Raymarine never invested enough in ironing out the software bugs.

Why would Garmin want to take over buggy systems when they have their own?

What he said!
I have a Garmin 3005c with the additional black box Garmin DS system. Must be about US$ 1300. into this, plus the spendy proprietary Garmin charting chips.
Of course that's in US play money and not the more valuable UK $$.... but it was rather real money to me! :)

Most (all?) of the newer Garmin plotters have the powerful perm. magnet chip door that must (in their install instructions) be kept about 39" away from your compass. There was a brainy engineering feat! I have had plastic parts break off of the DS module and the sounder unit for no apparent reason. Then there was their internal software date bug last August.
If I ever win a small lotto prize I will probably buy all Furuno... which I probably should have done, for a few more bux, in the first place. Oh well, "penny wise and pound foolish" as we even say over here in the US.

Oh, and to stay somewhat on topic, my 5-year-old set of Raymarine ST-60 instruments all work perfectly...
:)

Cheers,
LB
