Before I attempt to fit the seatalk backbone to my 44 foot boat (Aquastar), would anybody like to give me any tips on what to do or not to do, any diagrams.
I have two stations for steering, I have a E120 Classic in the inside steering , and was going to fit a couple of I70s and outdoor/upstairs steering position another couple of I70s with a e80, so far I have fitted a Raymarine (digital) echo sounder which also does the speed. I have an analogue Raymarine radar.
This is going to be an ongoing project as I would add and expand as wife/money allows. But the backbone is the initial issue.

Tips:

If you've not bought the cables yet, then watch out for cabling bundles appearing on EBay; I've seen some recently from people who were selling surplus stock after a project.

Another way to get some cheap cabling / connectors is to speak to a friendly marine electronics engineering company and negotiate on pricing. They've usually got cables/fittings kicking around and may be open to an offer (this is what I did for the cabling I required).

Power to the backbone should be supplied as far as possible to the centre of the cable based on LEN Load - see http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=400 for more info.

I70 is STNG (nmea2000) E120 Classic is ST1 so an E22158 converter required, not sure if you will get the full benefit of the I70s with those MFDs, best to discuss with your Raymarine dealer before making any decisions

I would suggest making your own diagram and perhaps go and talk to a friendly Raymarine dealer . I would particularly recommend Kildale Marine at Hull.
.
One thing is not clear from the diagram . If you want to connect two main displays as a master and slave chartplotter you will need to conect them together with a Raynet cable (which is a waterproof ethernet cable). Otherwise the slave plotter will not be a repeater for the master. I am not sure how this all works with the older type E120 .

Have you seen the new Raymarine Axiom displays ?

With that diagram I can see no point in having that network switch as the stng from the ict5 can be connected straight to the stng backbone, the E120 Classic is a different thing to this as with that you connect both displays together with a Raynet cable. I would discuss with a dealer who knows so that you only get the right kit for the job.
