Has anybody had to replace the giro in this unit the RM S1 smart pilot.
the part number is ENV-05DB-52 which is on the unit but I cannot find out where to buy one
regards Mike.

Well, you'd probably be able to get one from Raymarine. However, it's made by Murata and Farnell sell Murata components in UK, although they don't list this particular sensor. Worth asking, I'd have thought.

I have an S1. Could you tell me how you knew that the gyro had failed? Is there a warning? Or are you electronically minded and had the unit apart?
Just for my reference, thanks.

S1 giro

I had problems with my S1 going of course, I have had this problem before and sent the Fluxgate and S1 back to Raymarine, who tested both and found the fluxgate to be ok but the giro was not working correctly and causing a problem with the heading. I bought this S1 some years ago on ebay so was second hand was sold as a S1 without giro, but turned out to have a giro.
I have had problems again, so have contacted Raymarine by email had a reply with in hours advising me to check the Fluxgate by with the autopilot in standby check the fluxgate heading with several known bearings on transits or with the ships compass if there is no significant difference then the fluxgate is ok, then I should check the autopilot for any problems with course holding, if there is a problem then disconnect the fluxgate by unpluging it from the PCB and use the autopilot to see if all is ok then if the autopilot holds a course ok the fault is with the giro.
I hope this helps, I have done as instructed, and found that the compass was ok ,so I recalibrated the unit and it seems ok now, I did uplug and plug the giro in so am hoping the problem was with the connection with the plug, but I shall keep a close watch on my course holding for a while. I would recommend the online help from Raymarine. Giro is the square silver box with red black and yellow wires leading to a white plug. The PCB is slid out of the housing once the small Philips head screw in the middle of the board just above the connector block.

Thank you for your reply. Fingers crossed so far my S1 is ok.
I have a rudder reference transducer as well as the gyro. In my gaffer this is a good idea since the boat is not as responsive to the helm as a modern yacht.
The autopilot will steer the boat on all headings even a dead run.
