Having done a factory reset on my Raymarine C70 Chart Plotter I now find it is not receiving any satellite signals from the GPS.
The GPS is showing the correct light signal on the GPS unit (I.e. flashing green) and all the cables/plugs etc are all secure on the chart plotter.

Am I missing something? For instance, Do I need to set something on the chart plotter telling it what type of GPS it is connected to.

Any advice?

Thanks

Does your C70 have an internal GPS. By default, the C70 will use internal GPS if fitted. If you have external GPS, then this will cause a conflict.
According to the user manual, press Menu, then use trackpad to select Internal GPS, then select OFF, then select OK

Is the GPS coming through something else?
i.e. A Raymarine AIS unit.
If so the baud rates on the C70 will have been reset and you'll need to put it back to 38400.

The C70 wasn't available with an internal GPS.

Could it be something as simple as having to re-select either NMEA or Seatalk for communication with the RS125 GPS? Perhaps you had it set to NMEA before and the factory default is Seatalk, for example..

R125 GPS Problem

CDOGG,
I think there is a diagnostic function on the C70 whereby you can monitor the data being received from various instruments. Maybe in something like MENU, DIAGNOSTICS ...... I am afraid it is a long time since I looked at it but I seem to remember it is there somewhere.

The Raymarine installation manual (available on line) says:

"Testing instrument data:
To ensure that your system is receiving instrument data, you should check the
following:
From SeaTalk or SeaTalk2
Open the digital instrument application and ensure all relevant data is displayed. If you
are not receiving data, check cable connections.
From third party devices on NMEA 0183
Check that appropriate NMEA sentences are being sent from the third party device and
on the C-Series Display. Open the digital instrument application and ensure all relevant
data is displayed."

You should check whether the 125 is sending via Seatalk or NMEA (both are possible).

After lunch I'll wander down to the boat and see if I can refresh my memory as to how to look at the data on the C70!!! ..... if you haven't solved the problem by then!

Alan.

RS125 Problem

CDOGG,
Managed to stroll down to the boat before lunch ... only 37C here today!!

You can access system diagnostics via:

MENU/SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS/EXTERNAL INTERFACES/ then you need to select either NMEA 0183 or Seatalk. In my case I selected Seatalk (not Seatalk2) because my 125 is connected via Seatalk; then you will see the "Received Sentences" counter incrementing about once every second.

If you want to check the setting of your NMEA port then:
MENU/SYSTEM SETUP/SYSTEM INTEGRATION/NMEA Port Setting then set it for 4800 if you are using the NMEA port for GPS.

Also if you go to GPS Setup, then there is a soft key which you can use to re-start the GPS ... this may help!

If I can check anything else for you, let me know.

Good luck,
Alan.

I am embarrassed to write this after all your kind suggestions as to possible solutions. Not being technically minded I gave up and sent for the experts - a ferry and a longish drive away. They came racing to assistance and - now for the embarrassing part, they fixed it with 10 minutes. I suppose I'll have to describe the problem or I'll inundated with further posts. Someone, not me mister, incorrectly plug the chart plotter back together after check it out for water ingress and it all came down to one b****y wire. So there you are, I have come clean!
Still, I'm happy as it is all working again.
Many thanks goes to 'Boat Electrics' from Kip Marina on the Clyde for their rapid response and their thorough knowledge of the Navionics system which they patiently talked me through and for dealing so politely with an eegit! (is that how you spell
eegit?)
