I have a Raymarine RL70CRC Chartplotter fitted to my S37 which is 5 years old now. I'd quite like a repeater (I think they are called) which would sit neatly next to it and give me larger displays of chart and radar which curently are a bit small with split screen.
I guess an ebay seach is the best way of finding a secondhand cheapie but I can't find the model number of the repeater to suit my now obsolete model, can anyone help.
I guess the electrics join up is straightforward (I hope!)

If vintage late 2002 should be HSB2. With the RL70CRC (it was a networking not standalone unit) I am pretty sure all you need to do is to connect a smilar unit (there were a few diffrenet models, some monochrome) with the requisite cable and they will talk. Same as if you had a flybridge unit.

There are quite a few from time to time on US ebay, but don't know the logistics of buying on ebay from there. I've been thinking about a third screen (ie 2 in the saloon). Would be interested to hear how you get on.

About a month ago, I managed to buy a new raydome for my ten year old Rathion radar. First phone call to a dealer nearby. He'd had one in stock for ten years. Fitted it the same day.

Other wise it would have ment replacing the whole electronics system. No time to do this, as we were on holiday.

You want a RL80CRC Plus which has a 10" screen but be aware it is a hefty unit. The RL80 usues the same screen resolution but with bigger pixels so display clarity isn't improved. You mention the RL70 display is too small on split screen, so if you found another RL70CRC you wouldn't have to use split screen. The latter would reduce the size concern and slightly reduce the additional power consumption. all RL "Plus" models can be directly "networked" just using an HSB2 cable.

Be careful
Relating to HSB vs HSB2 - network interfaces.
Only the recent ones had the HSB2 facility.
From memory, some features that the HSB2 had didnt exist on the HSB.
I'm prety sure that only two devices can exist on the HSB whereas more on the HSB2 - I know that wont affect you but it does show that the systems are different.
I had all my 4 displays upgraded to HSB2 but I dont think that it is possible to do that now - it wasnt just a software upgrade - they needed to change the hardware as well.

Worth doing though - especially if you can get your hands on an RL80 display - we have one and its much better than the smaller RL70s.
You'r correct though - it is much easier with two displays - especially if you have an autopilot and dont want to disturb the GPS/Autopilot when all you want to do is fiddle with the radar.
