Anyone know the voltages at the cable junction at base of mast and how to detect Radar fault. Its on an E series installed 10 yrs ago. Is 10yrs their effective life?

Did get a very brief display of about 5deg (out of a 360deg sweep) so suspect scanner rotating motor has failed.

Any knowledge/opinions please

Hi

I have not used the e-Series MFD for radar but somewhere in it there is a diagnostic (self test) menu that will run through a series of tests.

Details of the menu might be here..

One of the tests should include 'rotation time'...

If you can hear the scanner turning but the 'rotation time' is not within specification - or just not showing a rotation time - then it could just be a simple case of the detector (that detects the scanner spinning) has failed...

Let us know what the diagnostics show (rather than trying to guess)...

(1) Chk cable junction at mast base by wiggling it while someone monitors display.

(2) Remove dome cover & see if scanner is rotating while in TX mode.

Not familiar with this dome-just suggesting some common radar faults.

You should get way more than 10yrs out of modern radars, especially non-commercial use,but everything can break down. Cheers/Len

Put your ear to the mast and you'll hear it rotating - if it is.
On the other hand, if it's been lying unused for the Winter, let it sit in warmup/standby mode for 30 mins before transmitting.
