Raymarine Plotter software update

just bear in mind quite what gets updated depends on whats already there!
The tides function is of some use, if you dont already have that, but cant say I ve found the compass bar of much use, assuming you have a normal compass in front of you anyway!
As regards the engine data, that depends on what info your engines/EDC/EDV is sending..I guess the D series sends more- I dont get anything from the KADs, for example.
So for me, I basically got an animated tide arrow. And (unless they ve updated it again?), you have to select the tidal icon for that location only.. it doesnt display all the tidal flows on the screen area at the same time, for example.. you can only select one at a time. If you intend to cover a few miles, thats a bit of a fiddle, clicking all over the intended cruise area.
Still, for the price of a flashcard, and maybe a reader as its quite a big card!.....

I am thinking of performing this update to my C80.

Has anyone tried it?

Basically I am after the animated tides and currents feature (which I hope will show the tidal stream?).

I've done it a couple of times on the G Series.
The Raymarine process of updating is very simple to do.

You have to make a judgement though with any upgrade.
Is it worth mending something that isnt broken?

as far as I recall, but I think you have to register the product serial numbers- which meant getting the number off the plotter, which meant removing the damn thing from the helm, in my case !!

Plotter software upgrade

I have E series so apologies if this doesn't apply to the C. Mine uses compact flash cards and the system is very sensitive to the make and size of card used to carry the upgrade. I tried several without success and rang Raymarine who confirmed that only a few makes and sizes work. However they lent me one of theirs with the upgrade on it. Sent and arrived the next day, installed perfectly all at no charge. They trusted me to send the card back to them

I registered with a serial number of '1', which was enough to let me download the upgrade...

I was a bit naughty too and for the same reasons as others I'm sure (did not have access the plotter at the time as I was at home and it was on the boat), I googled 'raymarine e80 serial number' which brought up somebody else's, which I then used to register for the download...tut tut! - seems like that was wasted though if just 1's of F's were good enough!

No problems with the upgrades though and they worked with any of the 4 compact flash cards I had - Raymarine do a utility that checks the compatibility of the card (and re-configures it if necessary....2 of my cards needed the reconfig which took under a second each using the utility).
