So I put the Ray240e modular VHF on my boat and all works well. Its a UK radio (or at least it says so on the box) but I can only get a very select few channels.

Ch.67, 68, 70, 72 and 77 are available, as well as 80 and 16 of course but scant else.

Biggest problem is now being based in Gosport the radio will not allow me to select Ch.11 which is required to speak to the Portsmouth Harbour boys when going to and from Gunwarf Quays among other things.

Also dont seem to have many of the lower channel numbers such as 6 and 8 which have been useful before for contacting Southampton pilots etc etc.

Any body know if these channels can be opened up easily or is it something only a Raymarine boffin could do. And why would they be missing in the first place. All a bit **** really bearing in mind the cost of the kit.

I fitted one of them last year and one of raymarines tech guys had to plug in his laptop and re program it to add some channels it should have had as it was not done in the factory, this was bought as a UK spec radio.

Sounds to me it is faulty and not fit for purpose as the ship to ship channels are 6 8 72 and 77 I believe and it shoud give 1 to 29 then 60 to about 89 (I think) Is it possible you are tuning the scan frequencies or something and not full range.

It should show if on USA or INT .. if usa it will display some stations as 20 A or 21A etc also 67 will be limited to 1 watt as this is a USA chat channel.

I m sure there is a smple reason for what it is doing and no doubt Raymarine can help or give you your money back so you can get an ICOM...:D

Sounds like a simple case of reprogramming it Jez.

The Simrad that was fitted to JW was "supposed" to be a UK spec but it didnt have M and M2 so it was sent back fro reporogramming.

Its been back again recently - to change the MMSI this time.

Hurricane, I'm a bit worried: the picture of Jenny Wren in your sig shows her moving along pretty fast but I've been glancing at it for a few days now and you don't seem to be making much progress along the coast. Must be one heck of a tidal race you're fighting. :D
