Was thinking about getting one of these to connect to the Raymarine course computer on my Targa 40, as its the non gyro version...

Only thing is, I can't find the bloomin' thing anywhere. I've looked in behind the electric panel (the VHF module is there), i've pulled down part of the ceiling in the aft cabin (there are some Volvo thingys there), in the engine bay, under the dashboard, behind the kitchen sink all to no avail...anyone any idea where in the heck it is??

Thanks in advance, Rob

Dunno the T40 but on mine it is behind the back panel in stbd cabin wardrobe. Back lining of wardrobe just pulls off, on velcro.

The gadget you're fitting is only of any use if you use radar/chart overlay or marpa a lot. you'll need to connect the FH signal from the course computer to your plotter using a NMEA connection

MARPA is exactly what I want it for...I do a couple of channel crossings a year to CI's and France, and MARPA is [--word removed--] with the non gyro computer.

Don't think its under the bunks or in the aft cabin wardrobe, anyone own a T40 that knows? Roger rat are you about?

Here I am. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll probably find it behind the headboard in the rear cabin, well that's where it is on 'Houston'.

To remove the headboard run your finger down into the padded pleat and you'll find a posidrive screw near the left hand side as you look at it. (It's hard to find)

Behind the panel there is a large cavity with the course computer mounted on a panel.

Good luck. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Before you get into buying gyros, have you tried the Raymarine set-up like 'rudder gain' and checked the set-up of the auto helm being set for outdrives etc?

I found this needed to be reset on 'Houston' and adjusted in bigger seas when coming back across the channel.

Worth a try. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Rog - thanks for that! You've saved me from stripping the boat to pieces!!

I'm forever fiddling with the settings in the setup menu and I can never quite the autopilot working right...would you mind noting down the settings on your's when you're on your boat next and let me know? Excellent stuff /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Cheers for your help...Rob

You probably have got it right but you need to give it time to learn and adjust.

I also find it pretty complicated but lucky for me 'djefabs' has a good understanding of the terms Rayamrine use.

Best to set it up in the middle of the road of the parameters suggested in the manual. Once set, you will probably only need to quickly adjust rudder gain in rougher weather.

Make sure you select outdrives and middle option of sensitivity otherwise it'll be jumping all over the place trying to steer an over accuarate course, also allow a reasonable X-track error of atleast .1 Nm or cable too.

When you then use it you'll notice it veers off through wind or tide initially, by 10-20 degrees. Give it a couple of minutes for the course computer to realise and then it'll work its way back to the correct COG. Also worth turning on your Various vectors as in, 'tidal, heading & CMG so that you can see the adjusting more quickly.

Hope that helps.
