Anybody tried updating their Raymarine C70 MFD to version 5.04?
The reason I ask is that I can download the update files to a Compact Flash (CF) card, but when I try to load them onto the plotter I get an error message saying there is a sum-check error. I have tried downloading the files a couple of times but always get the same error message.

The file name seems a bit strange to me as it is "C_App_Upg.pkg"; in the Raymarine instructions for performing upgrades they say the file name should be of the format "C_App_Upg_429.pkg"; it would seem to me that the name should include the version number and would be "C_App_Upg_504.pkg" ??

Has anybody else tried to perform this upgrade and did you have problems?

Thanks in advance.
Alan.

Try a different size/type of CF card. believe there are issues with the high capacity cards as well as some vendors.

I had no problems with a humble 64MB CF SANDISK card.

Raymarine state;

To perform the software upgrade of a C-Series Classic, E-Series Classic, A60, or A65 display or archive waypoint/route/track data to a memory card, you will need a compatible CompactFlash® (CF) memory card and a CompactFlash memory card read/write device, a computer (or access to a computer), and Internet access for the computer. Raymarine recommends use of SanDisk brand CF memory cards having a capacity of between 32MB and 256MB with these displays. Low memory capacity SanDisk brand CF memory cards are now relatively challenging to purchase through local merchants. However, these CF memory cards may readily be purchased from Internet merchants.

Note: C-Series Widescreen MFDs and E-Series Widescreen MFDs are not subject to the aforementioned memory card capacity restrictions listed above.

Thanks for the reply. My CF is a "TakeMS" 2GB and I have used it before to do an update, it seems to be a problem with this particular update. The MFD sees the card and the file but when I try and load the file to the MFD (C70) I get the error message.

DipperToo,
Thanks for your earlier mail. I think that you are correct, as on checking my CF card I have only used it for saving routes (not software updates ... my bad memory). On their support site Raymarine say specifically that only cards from 32 - 256 MB should be used and preferably SanDisk make. (As you said; but in another part of their FAQs they say it somewhat more forcibly and not just "recommends"!!) If you don't have a SanDisk card then they also have an app for checking the CF card to see if it is compatible but it must be between 32 - 256 MB.

So, tomorrow I'll buy the correct card and try again.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Updating Software on Raymarine C70

Just in case anyone else is interested and is having problems with updating software using CF cards:

Somewhere on the Raymarine FAQ pages they very clearly state that:

"Software must be loaded on to a PC and then copied onto the CF card
The CF card must be between 32 and 256 MB
The software files must be in the CF card root directory (not in a folder)"

OK ........ I was following the Raymarine instructions and they do say to open the software on the PC desktop; but thinking that I knew best, I downloaded and unzipped it direct to the CF card..... Big mistake!! Raymarine know best!!!!

Anyway, I did as they said and even using 2GB CF card of some nondescript make I was able to upgrade the C70 without further problems.

SO, LESSON LEARNED IS TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS WORD FOR WORD.

Raymarine software update compatible CF cards

Hi
I also had this problem and could not obtain a suitable CF card. In the end I found an old CF chart card, deleted the files on it, them transferred the pkg and dob files onto it. This worked first time, no problems!
Safe arrivals
