My 8 year old unit has started to lose its position intermittently and the receiver mushroom has an orange flashing light.

Has anyone any idea where I start with trying to correct this?

Thanks in advance

Does it do this when you first power up the instruments? What gps unit is feeding the plotter? If it's a Raystar 120/125 the memory battery could be flat.

It's a CR2032 battery, readily available. If you have the older 120 then it is a bit more difficult as the battery is soldered to the PCB, If it's a 125 then it just slides into place. The unit is simple to take apart. Just be careful the black o ring seal is seated correctly when you put it back together. If it is a 125 I have a couple of photos of the unit opened up. PM your email addresses and I can send them to you.

Carefully take the 7 screws out and then remove the circuit board inside. On the underside of the circuit board you will find a battery holder. Hopefully you will have the push fit type but some of the earlier ones had batteries soldered on. Replace the battery and away you go. they last about 5 years and I have done mine twice now. About a 10 minute job the second time around. I now keep a spare battery on board.

These types of batteries are available cheaply from CPC Farnell.

Often cheaper on ebay due to postal charges, unless you want an excuse to order loads from CPC/Rapid/RS etc.
There are some good ebay sellers doing watch batteries 1st class post.

Tried to order a button battery priced at £3.11 from Farnell today. They wanted £3.95 postage and a minimum order value of £20.
i have just ordered the battery & a multimeter

This forum is amzaing, last Saturday I got the "Fix Lost" message and thought I was looking at buying a new GPS. I have now bought a new battery and will try replacing it next weekend. Many thanks to Slipstream 34.

Incidently I got two CR2032 cells from Asda for four quid, they were sold out of the single packs, which were £2.30 IIRC why would you pay £3+ to Farnell ?
