Raymarine C70 Classic very slow on new charts

Just over a year ago I updated the software to the latest version to handle bigger cards, and updated from a 2006 Navionics UK region card to Navionics+ for UK, N France etc. The plotter was a bit slow but tolerable.
Just before the year's Navionics Freshest Data update service expired, I updated the charts and downloaded some extra areas of the card and the SonarCharts. This is all supposed to be compatible.
However now the plotter is really really slow. Sometimes when you zoom you think it has frozen, then eventually the GPS position updates and shows you either in a field or on rocks, and then finally the cartography updates and you see where you really are.
Has anyone else suffered this? Is it just a consequence of the much bigger chart file overloading the processor, or is it the SonarCharts, or what?
Can anything be done to improve it, does removing or disabling the SonarCharts perhaps help (if it's possible)?
Any suggestions appreciated!

Hi have you the latest update on your C70 if not that may help but I imagine all that sona stuff will slow it down, I have a very old C 120 and that is quite fast enough but then I haven't updated my chart for a year or two.
Updates for C70 can be found on the Raymarine web site.

If I remember correctly the last software version was 4.25 for my C70.

I think the latest C-Classic firmware is v5.16 (28th May 2012) and it sounds as if Plevier has recently updated to this version.

I updated my Navionics Gold to the final 12 month Freshest Data a few months ago but have not updated to Navionics +.

I'm sure I recall that Sonar Charts was not compatible with the C-Classic but maybe that's under Gold and not +.

Just checked with http://www.navionics.com/sites/www....asia_africa_pacific_compatibility_guide_3.pdf and it seems that Sonar Charts are compatible with the Classic series but only using Navionics + but not Gold. Latest firmware required of course.

I wonder if Sonar Charts is pushing the Classic processor a bit too far? Going back to Nav + only might be a good idea but I don't know how to do it as you're one step ahead of me.

Yes I have updated to the latest software (5.16).

In fact having played around yesterday, I don't think it's using the SonarCharts data. I can't make the display look like the Navionics webapp does anyway!
Anyone know how you call them up?
The Navionics instruction is to select "presentation" from the main menu - that doesn't exist.

I have just swapped my Navionics gold card for the Navionics + upgrade on my c80. The default options included importing sonar charts but the local dealer advised against that as it might overstretch the C80 processor. The scrolling and zooming is perfectly acceptable and just as fast as it ever was with just nav charts loaded. Does anyone else have experience of using sonar charts with the Raymarine C - series classic? I'd like to be able to use it but not at the price of slower performance.

I believe you access the sonar charts by selecting Presentation ( bottom right option button) then selecting the appropriate chart layer.

From memory, "Presentation" is the right-hand softkey in normal chart mode. It's where you turn on and off the radar and AIS overlay layers, so it makes sense that the "sonar" layer would be there too.
