Has anyone been able to get the position of a DSC message to display on their Raymarine chartplotter C series.

My Standard Horizon ouputs (NMEA 0183 @ 4800) the DSC and DSE but I cant seem to get it to display.

Any help here greatly appreciated before I attempt to contact Raymarine.

Hello,

I havent got a c70 so i dont know exactly. However, since no one else has responded I throw in my tuppence:

I think you need to use a BAUD rate of 38400 as input to your C70. i.e you need to change the output from your gps or you need a multiplexer.

This is my understanding of multiplexers according to brookhouse - see
http://brookhouseonline.com/diag_ceseries.htm.

hope this helps!

How are you feeding the data to the C70? Is there any other data being input via NMEA?

edit: And I guess you have turned DSC messages on in the system setup menu?

Ray C70 and DSC

I think that it will only work if your radio and C70 are connected via Seatalk .... if I remember correctly (I will check when I have time) NMEA 0183 does not output DSC position info.... I may be wrong.

At 4800 radio info to and from C70 via Raymarine AIS receiver(multiplexer) so all goes to C70 via 38400. 38400 out of C70 via the multiplexer at 4800 to radio (SOG,COG.Lat,Long, Date, time etc)

C70 set to receive all NMEA sentences

OK, but have you turned DSC messages on in the setup menu?

Yes.

Thats the problem - everthing is set for it to work but it doesn't.

I have put off emailing Raymarine as in the past the responses are often either lacking or too general. A further point is cos the radio is not Raymarine they will not even try to answer.

Works fine on my C series, also shows position on the plotter when you request a position from a fishing buddy etc, NMEA 0183 will do it all at normal speed, as has already been said it can be disabled and it is worth mentioning that a software update may help as may a check on exactly what the VHF is sending.

I have the latest 4.25 software

How can I check that the radio is outputting the DSC and DSE ?

Why not try turning DSC messages off, then turning them on again? (Setup > System Setup > System Integration > DSC Message)

You need a serial terminal connected to the NMEA bus. Some instruments have a diagnostic mode where they can be set to do this, often by holding down some button as you turn them on. My CP180i plotter does this, for instance, as I think do some of the NASA displays.

Failing that, a laptop with a serial port or a serial->USB adaptor.
