Raymarine C120 classic struggling with Navionics chart update

My trusty Raymarine C 120 plotter has been struggling since I had my chart (UK + Netherlands) updated a couple of weeks ago. The updated charts were put on a CF 2 Gb, just like the previous version.
Since the update the plotter has crashed every couple of hours: the chart freezes although the plotter still gives the correct coordinates so the position is still updated, and no action like zooming or working with waypoints is possible. When I try to push a couple of buttons the plotter shuts down and tries to restart, which often only works after I have shut off the power supply.
My local dealer, who did the chart update, is very helpful and has contacted both Raymarine and Navionics who at first looked at one another, but finally Navionics support has removed some of the files of my update. Apparently the plotter couldn’t cope with the size of the files. After that, the plotter worked normally at first but after a time crashed again. Navionics removed some more files and now the plotter has worked normally all day.
I can’t be the only one to encounter this problem, what are your experiences?
