Raymarine C series

C series is good kit, does what it says on the tin, but a bit clunky to use. I prefer Garmin, more intuitive and direct.

PS: I've used RL80, C80 and Garmin extensively, Garmin just has that functional and useability "edge". PC integration also better, but I''d be quite happy on a boat using a C-Series.

again its personal preference - as far as i know the raw data is the same (or as near as damnit) on all chart types, its the presentation of the data that differs.

I like the Garmin charts as they are more colourful, i like the Garmin plotters cos they are very intuitive and look smart.Others wil disagree, you pays yer money you takes yer choice!

Like I have already said, one thing that keeps me away from Garmin is the fact that the chartography is unique to Garmin. If they decide in three years time to bring out some new format, or they decide not to support last generation devices then you are stuffed. As seen previously, they will do what they like.

On the other hand with Raymarine, Lowrance, Geonav, Furuno and several other makes using Navonics it would be commercial suicide to stop supporting previous versions.

Other than that, yes I would prefer Garmin, and I will be looking at their systems on Sat as well as Raymarine.

Its worth updating the firmware on th plotter - its speeds up the panning and zooming loads!

When I bought my boat, see above, I found the firmware was still original. I updated it last year and it gave me many more features. I understand they have done this most years and the service is free. Updating is simple, just download the new firmware from the Raymarine website, put it on a memory card and put that into the unit.
