What is the difference between the S1 and the SPX-5 Wheel autopilot? Does anyone have anyone of these? Are they compatible with seatalk signals sent from older ST50 senders?
I installed the S1 wheel autopilot a couple of years ago - it had just superseded the earlier version and came with computer and rudder sensor, the latter was a pita to fit. I wondered at the time if it was really a necessary addition to the kit.
Now the X-5 seems to be the same package, less the rudder sensor ...
I would presume Seatalk, being propriety, can interface - the computer should be backwards compatible even to any older version, but I really don't know the answer to that.
No rudder sensor, NMEA 2000 intergration and a rate gyro for better steering. All seems like a bit of a rebrand to me, a price hike and not a lot else. I really dont see how the system can be effective without a rudder sensor. I am in the market for the same kit but would rather let it settle to version 2 first. I really wish some other manafacturers would make a wheel pilot in the same sort of price range
