I have a S1(quite old now) wheel pilot with a smart heading sensor and a P70 control head. When I engage the clutch and press auto the wheel turn to port by up to 1/4 turn and then slowly returns to starboard a bit but never back to the original course. Now the control head has started constant beeping.
Anyone experienced either symptom before. Tried the search but it didn't turn anything up.

Grateful for any knowledge out there.

Thanks

I don't know the S1 (I have an old Autohelm type 1 drive with a p70) but do you have a rudder reference arm? You can tell on the p70 as it shows a green or red arc depending on the rudder angle.

What message does the control head give when it bleeps? There's a good few listed in the p70 manual.

And is it an original fit from commissioning? Just I have a Dehler and the original autopilot fit was a cowboy job - drilled holes in a cast aluminuim quadrant.

We had an issue wirh the course wandering by 20-30 degrees when we changed our autopilot. We were heading up the river and she would randomly head towaeds buoys on opposite sides if the river despite no change in course. We adjusted tge response level to performance and everything is good now.
